For a seventh after his death, in Milan, eight thousand people in Piazza della Scala for the last farewell to Maestro Abbado.

A crowd moved and silently gathered to hear the notes of the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim who performed inside the theatre the Funeral March from the third Eroica Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven. For the occasion, the theatre was empty and the doors open. Playing the Eroica is a tradition that is repeated for the Masters of the orchestra for over half a century. Rang in 1957 to bid farewell to Arturo Toscanini , under the direction of De Save, followed in 1967 by Victor De Sabata, with the orchestra without a conductor, Gianandrea Gavazzeni in 1996, under the direction of Maestro Muti, and in 2005 Carlo Maria Giulivi with the direction of Myung Whun Chung. In Milan, a crowd has seen this sort of secular funeral, from famous faces such as Mayor Pisapia and Stéphane Lissner, superintendent of the Teatro alla Scala (theatre where Abbado was music director for 18 years), with all other citizens flocked to give a final farewell to their fellow citizen .
